Dr. Orhan Tuncay is known for his work on the biology of tooth movement, meta-analyses, facial aesthetics, and 3D imaging and animation of the human face. He holds patents for his innovations in the field of 3D imaging.
Dr. Tucany is the President of the American Association Of Orthodontists Foundation.
Dr. Tuncay has held innumerable official positions as an orthodontist in both scientific and professional organizations including: Chairman of the Council on Scientific Affairs of the American Association of Orthodontists; President of Greater Philadelphia Society of Orthodontists; President of Craniofacial Biology Group of International & American Association for Dental Research.
His textbook “The Invisalign® System” published by Quintessence (Berlin, Germany) is the first textbook in the world on Invisalign. It was translated into Chinese. It is the most widely read and influential Invisalign textbook in the world.
Additionally, he is the founding Editor of four different international journals. The first is Orthodontics & Craniofacial Research, published by Wiley (formerly Munksgaard). Second is the journal owned by the Italian Society of Orthodontics (Societa Italiana Di Ortodonzia) entitled Progress in Orthodontics published by Quintessence which had the highest Impact Factor in the world. The third publication is Cases & Commentaries in Orthodontic Technology. Finally, the fourth is named Clinical Reports & Techniques (in Invisalign). Editorship of 4 different periodicals is an unprecedented accolade for an orthodontist.
The journal Orthodontics & Craniofacial Research has the highest Impact Factor of any orthodontic journal in the world.
His career is also distinguished by nearly two-hundred publications he had contributed to clinical and scientific literature. He lectures extensively both in the United States and abroad. He has been involved with the development of the Invisalign® System since its beginnings.
Dr. Tuncay is a fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, the oldest medical society in the United States (1787). Dr. Tuncay currently serves as the President of the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation. In addition to his membership in the American Association of Orthodontists, he is a member of the Angle Society of Orthodontists, and has been awarded an honorary membership in the Charles H. Tweed Foundation.
